Is the 2021 Kia K5 different than the Kia Optima?

Kia is one of the most nimble and innovative automakers in the world. Its lineup is filled with vehicles that can meet just about any owner’s needs and budget. Over the last few weeks, word has started to leak out about something new coming to dealerships like Team Gunther Kia. So, is the 2021 Kia K5 different than the Kia Optima? The short answer is, yes. Kia has been using the K5 name for the Optima in foreign markets for a while now and decided to streamline its naming conventions for 2021. For the coming model year, the Kia K5 will feature a bold exterior that has taken some inspiration from the Stinger and it will ride on the automaker’s new chassis architecture.

Performance Specs

Team Gunther Kia customers can choose between two engine options if they’re interested in the 2021 Kia K5. Most models will have a turbocharged 1.6-liter, inline four-cylinder engine under the hood that will be attached to an eight-speed automatic transmission. It will make 180 horsepower and 195 pound-feet of torque.

The top of the line GT trim will employ a turbocharged 2.5-liter, inline four-cylinder engine and a Kia-first wet dual-clutch eight-speed automatic transmission. This version of the new Kia sport sedan will make 290 horsepower and 311 pound-feet of torque. According to the automaker, the 2021 Kia K5 using this engine will be able to accelerate from zero-to-60 mph in 5.8 seconds.

Available Technology

A vehicle that is equipped with Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™ is pretty commonplace in the automotive industry these days. However, Kia is continuing to refine the technology by incorporating wireless connectivity. Drivers and passengers will be able to connect their compatible phones to the vehicle’s infotainment system without having to worry about tangled cords.

Additionally, Kia has included a wireless smartphone charging tray in the 2021 K5 that will both keep the phone within easy reach and securely held on the charging pad. The new Kia wireless phone charging feature will reduce charging time and they have included a cooling fan.
