Kia Rio offers top initial quality 2018

One of the worst things is to buy a new car and then have issues. Whether that be a weird sound that is a symptom of a larger issue, or an honest-to-goodness breakdown, it can really take the shine off a new car. Drivers should be able to expect a certain level of initial quality in their vehicles, but what does initial quality in a car even mean? Different organizations will have different opinions, but each year there is a J.D. Power Initial Quality Study that looks at very specific things.

What does initial quality in a car even mean?

According the the J.D. Power Initial Quality Study that happens annually, a good judge of initial quality is looking at how many issues were reported by buyers in the first 90 days of car ownership. Some things that might have been reported included technology or interior features that are difficult or impossible to work, feature or vehicle malfunctions, or even breakdowns. The J.D. Power study ranks different vehicles according to this criteria by looking at how many problems are reported about per 100 vehicles sold by different manufactureres.

We are happy to let you know that in the 2018 J.D. Power Initial Quality Study, Kia took the top spot in the non-premium brand category. It earned that title with just 72 problems per 100 vehicles. This is the fourth consecutive year that Kia earned this top spot.
