How do I use the Kia Engine Start/Stop Button?Â
Fumbling with keys is a common issue every driver has dealt with at some point in their time on the road. Kia wants to make its lineup of vehicles as user-friendly as possible and that means eliminating as many pain points as possible. One of those solutions is to largely eliminate the need to use a set of keys to start a vehicle. So, if you’re wondering, ‘How do I use the Kia Engine Start/Stop Button?’ Basically, it’s as easy as making sure you have the key fob with you and pressing the button. Our team of product experts helps several people per week understand this technology and we thought it would be helpful to produce this handy guide. We are using the 2021 Kia Sorento as our model, but these tips should be broadly applicable to most of the manufacturer’s vehicles.Â

Using Kia Keyless Ignition
Assuming you have the vehicle’s key fob in your pocket or purse, you are ready to get your trip underway. In order to start the engine, follow these simple steps:
• Make sure the vehicle is in park (P) or neutral (N).
• Step on the brake pedal.
• Press the Engine Start/Stop button until the engine starts.
Turning the engine is just as easy. Shift the vehicle into park or neutral, press the Engine Start/Stop button again.
How do I activate the accessory position?
In the old days, turning the key one position forward or one position back would active the vehicle’s accessory mode. This allows someone to listen to the radio or turn on the headlights. However, this isn’t possible if a vehicle doesn’t use a traditional key. In order to perform similar functions in a Kia vehicle with an Engine Start/Stop button, follow these steps:Â
• Make sure the key fob is inside the vehicle
• WITHOUT pressing the brake pedal, press the Engine Start/Stop button once.
The vehicle will now be in accessory mode. Don’t forget to turn the vehicle off by pressing the Engine Start/Stop button again.
