Which is better: the 2019 Kia Sportage or the 2019 Mazda CX-5?
The 2019 Kia Sportage and 2019 Mazda CX-5 are both excellent vehicles. Need proof? The reviews speak for themselves: both earn the same high score and rank #2 overall in compact SUVs on U.S. News and World Report. Unfortunately, being so closely matched can make choosing between the two a difficult task for buyers. To help you compare, we decided to take a closer look at what sets these tight competitors apart.

The interior is one of our favorite parts of the 2019 Kia Sportage. The roomy, comfortable seats are some of the best in the segment. The cabin is upscale and quiet, and the materials would not be out of place on a luxury vehicle. The handling is solid and it’s just an enjoyable vehicle to drive.
The warranty is another area where the 2019 Sportage really shines. Whereas the 2019 CX-5 comes with just a three-year/36,000-mile limited warranty and a five-year/60,000-mile powertrain warranty, the 2019 Sportage comes with an impressive five-year/60,000 mile basic warranty and a 10-year/100,000-mile powertrain warranty. The powertrain warranty in particular stands out as one of the longest in the class.
Though both vehicles do not have a predicted reliability rating at the time of writing, we can look at recent models to get an idea. The Sportage is part of a generation that typically earns a predicted reliability rating of 4.5 out of 5 from J.D. power. That’s one of the highest scores in the class, and an excellent rating in general. The CX-5, on the other hand, got a below-average 2.5 out of 5 for its last year. Both vehicles received perfect five-star overall crash test ratings from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
